Learning - Library

Unley Primary School enjoys a well- resourced library, where students can access a large range of resources. Students visit the library with their class weekly and can borrow resources to enjoy at home.  Students Reception to Year 2 are asked to use a material library bag to carry books to and from home.

The library is open for browsing, borrowing and returning every morning before school from 8.35am or after school most days 3.20 - 3.40pm. Students are also encouraged to return and borrow any day by their classroom teachers.

Books are on loan for two weeks but be changed each day.

  • R-1 students can borrow 2 books at a time.
  • Year 2 students can borrow 3 books at a time.
  • Year 3 - 4 students can borrow up to 6 books at a time.

Year 5 - 7 students can borrow up to 8 books.

The following items can be borrowed by students–Picture Books, Non Fiction Books, Novels, Audio stories and Graphic Novels (comics).

If a child loses a book we ask that they let library staff know and pay $5 towards the purchase of a new book.

The library is open each day at lunchtime. Students can read quietly, draw, play board games, play with Lego and access a range of apps on the iPads.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier has set a challenge for students in South Australia to read 12 books a year. Eight of these books come from a list of high quality titles and four of the books can be of the student's choice. Students begin the challenge in January when the school term begins and have until September to complete the challenge. Students record the books they have read on a form, which is then handed to the library staff by a date the school sets in September.

Students in Reception to Year 2 complete the challenge in the Library with the teacher librarian or in the classroom supported by their teacher.
